"Williams Defender"... What else can you say... This game raped "many-o-quarter" or "tokens" from me in my youth. It had everything that could keep you totally involved and on the "edge" at all times. Looked cool, sounded cool, lots-o-button's, and plenty of "eye candy" to keep you busy until it relentlessly handed your ass back to you. What more could you ask for... (  Besides another quarter... )
I picked this particular machine up in a local 3 game buy. It was sitting there saying take me home.. Fix me.. Complete me.. Make me kick your ass again... ( Yeah i know.. I'm a sucker )
As stated before, this was 1 of 3 games that i bought in a local deal. This is what i consider my 1st  "operator/warehouse find". Really it was just a shop/barn that was full of about 30 forgotten games that were left in there to sit till their death or other impending doom. ( It's still there by the way and i will go back to get more )  Let us note up front, that these games have been sitting here for probably at least 15 years and had acquired ALOT of dirt and dust and whatever crud you could imagine on them. Upon immediate inspection of this game it was noticed that the back door of the machine was gone and that the inside of it was filthy but cleanable. It was missing the "main" board,  but it had the "ROM" board, Sound board, and the "Widget" board. It also  still had the original Power Supply board. Everything else seemed complete but dirty.. Unfortunately i didn't get any photos of it when it was really dirty so you could see what i was talking about.. Below are some shots of it after it was cleaned up a bit and working..

Here is a full frontal nudity shot of my Defender after a hefty cleaning and with the Defender marquee in place. The plastic retention brackets that hold the marquee on, were caked with masking tape as though this was the way it was held on by the previous owner/user. After alot of elbow grease and a small bottle of GOO GONE, i was able to take all the tape off and make it look alot better.

Here is a little closer up picture... Sorry.. More bad camera flash....

Here is a shot looking at the left side of the machine...

Here is a right side shot...

Here is a shot of the original Williams Power Supply with a new 3 Prong cord put on. The original plug in power cord was pretty hammered and had the 3rd "ground" pin cut off.. It seemed to be a normal thing to do back in the day when most places that these games were in only had 2 prong outlets.. The below picture is after it was cleaned as before it would of been unrecognizable..

Here are some shots of the board set after it was working and complete. The upper most board is the sound board, just below that lies the ROM Board, the smaller board to the right of that is the "widget board" that all of the controls and buttons work with, and connected to that is the bid Main PCB board.. Also, the ROM board had to be fixed as well with the Sound and Widget board. They all had some minor issues..

There are a couple of things that i am going to do before i call this machine good for now. I would like to replace the T-Molding as it i scuffed and faded. It could also a  "repro" or NOS ( New Old Stock ) Control Panel overlay put on as the current original has the usual cigarette burns on the edges.. Oh.. An a new and painted back door w/ lock...
